Ultrasonic imaging of the back of the eye allows for visualization of retinal and subretinal structures when the view is blocked by opacities such as vitreous blood or dense cataract; this technology can aid in the diagnosis of retina detachments as well as differentiation of tumours of the retina or choroid.
